Low Tire Warnings – Is It Actually A Low Tire ?

Can My Low Tire Warning Light Be Wrong??

My 2015 Buick Verano had recently been giving me a Dashboard Warning Light, indicating a low tire. Upon manually checking the tire indicated, as well as the other tires, I found there to be no such condition to be alarmed about.

With a little research, I found there can be other causes for this warning light to become active.

As it turns out, the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitor System) can be inadvertantly activated by other unrelated wireless signals such as remote controlled toys, airplanes, cars, garage door openers, remotely operated security cameras, and more.

I noticed my neighbour one day last week loading a remote controlled airplane into his trunk and I wondered about frequency interference. Upon researching a little bit, I found that RC cars, trucks, airplanes and possibly even drones, could be using a frequency that is close enough to a tire pressure sensor that it could triggerr a false signal in a car.

We also recently added a new garage door opener remote control for another new car we purchased recently, and that remote switch could also use a frequency that is close to the range used by air pressure monitors in cars.

So there did exist a possibility that there never was a problem with low air in any tire in the first place. At least I did actually discover that the tires were misplaced in the car’s computer system.

Then another mystery came up.
